With more than 20 years in nonprofit administration and leadership, Derek brings a unique blend of operations expertise and strategic fund development to organizations aspiring to scale and strengthen their programs. For much of his professional life, Derek has lived and worked outside of the United States, in Afghanistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and Zimbabwe. These experiences taught him important lessons in problem-solving, perspectives and effective communications. Derek is the chief executive for NeuroKids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the world’s children from hydrocephalus. Our goal is to reduce the global burden of hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and shunt-dependence through training, treatment, and research.

Prior to working in the nonprofit sector, Derek held leadership positions in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. He earned Bachelors of Science degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry and completed advanced management certificates through The Wharton School’s Executive Education program. Derek and his wife have two children and live in the Washington, DC area.
